Do you get a water bill?

No. You probably have a well systemThe main shut off valve will be wherever the well equipment is located (think large tank with piping and valves near the bottom).

Yes. If you do get a water bill, then your primary main shut off valve should be wherever the water line enters the structure.

If you have a basement, you’ll see a pipe coming through the basement wall somewhere and going upward. If you have a pier-and-beam or slab foundation, the main valve could be in a ground-level box near the home or inside an interior wall of the home behind an access panel.

When you find the valve, turn it clockwise. If the valve has a round handle, turn it clockwise several times until it stops. If the valve has a lever handle, turn it clockwise until the lever is perpendicular to the pipe.

These are the most common scenarios. Sometimes these valves can be difficult to locate. Your utility provider will typically have a hotline in the event of water emergencies. They will come out and shut your water off with the curb stop at the property line.
